Homage to London

Homage to London

scarf: liberty of london for target

Today's outfit is a little homage to London style. While I was there, most women were in one of two uniforms: purple or black tights with black flats and a mini; or black leggings with booties or flats and a fabulous coat. They looked so chic and comfortable that I was actually seduced into buying a pair of leggings myself. Now don't get me wrong: I think of leggings more like tights than like pants and I plan to wear them that way, although I find that more and more women can pull off leggings-as-pants with the right long tee, accessories and shoes. I have a few classes and office hours today, so my goal was comfort and easy layers.

Homage to London

Obviously, the scarf is the centerpiece of today's ensemble. Before I left for London, I went to Target to check out Liberty of London and try to pick up a few presents for Rachel. I was a little under-whelmed by the women's clothing because the fabric wasn't as high-quality as I hoped, and the prices were a little steep for Target. But I did discover two AMAZING skirts in the little girls' section (debut later this week when temps rise) made of sturdy thick cotton. Score!

I also picked up this scarf (and one for my sister, see a photo of it here), which I am quickly falling in love with. It's a sturdy cotton and is going to be the perfect little extra for spring. Did you all go see Liberty of London stuff? What did you think? The patterns are seriously cool (I saw this awesome tie with rows of cars--it was too cute!).

Oh I LOVE that scarf!!! The colors are so pretty and springy! I haven't made it over to Target, but have seen a bunch of posts on LL! Sounds like the kids section is the place to be when picking up Liberty of London items. Can't wait to see the skirt!

Awesome scarf- I've been wanting to check out this collection from Target but haven't had the chance yet.

I really love everything about this outfit! I also love the color/pattern on the scarf. I haven't been to Target in a while (to look for clothes at least) so I have not gotten the chance to see their stuff!

Our LoL stuff was few and far between. I did get one of the wallets and tried to go snag a few of the dresses, but the prices were high.

I really wanted some of the home decor items, but we are moving soon and I don't want to move any unnecessary items.

I think I may have to swing in Target to see if they have any scarves left. The one you are rockin' is so beautiful!

I really like the scarf! I think I got the best LoL dress that Target had to offer, but I was a little disappointed in that line, as well.

Welcome to the leggings club! You will never want to leave. ;)

The floral scarf is fabulous fun, and I adore the casual-chic outfit you've constructed around it.

Yes, you look very London! (At least what I remember from a few years ago). London ladies are very chic but comfortable. You rock these leggings and that scarf is great with this outfit!

I don't own any leggings because I totally agree with you... I'm afraid of the slippery slope that might lead me to the terrifying Peg Bundy look. But using leggings as tights, now that I really like!

I live in leggings during the winter -- I wear them with a shirtdress usually, and the leggings are SO comfortable inside my boots.

I also really like the grey dress, and I generally am not an American Apparel fan!

I'm with ya on the underwhelmed-by-Liberty-women's clothing front. Chintzy. I did decide to bring home a bucket-style hat in a fun sunflower print (for gardening and maybe a hike), a binder, and one of the canisters. I'm seriously considering going back for a lampshade, and a tie for Patrick (the cars!). I can't get those fabulous patterns out of my head.

Yep, I am in London and leggings are everywhere... I live in them for casual over winter but I would never been seen with my butt uncovered. :D

I love your scarf! :)

Leggings are the bomb diggidy. They are perfect for those dresses that are too short to be decent alone, but too long to be worn as a top. This happens to me alot because of my long torso. Some people can definitely pull them off as pants, and I bet you probably could too.

I think one of the best things about traveling is being inspired to try wearing something a different way-- or wearing it at all, so this outfit is definitely cool! You look great.

You pulled the leggings off, they looks great! I like the unique cut of the flats, I've never seen shoes like that. Maybe I'm just sheltered.. haha

once you start wearing leggings you'll never EVER stop... i'm a firm believer that leggings are a viable form of pants - but that may be pushing you too far... nevertheless, i love the fact that you kept the rest of your outfit rather neutral while focusing on your marvelous scarf!

absolutely love this. That grey dress is just amazing because I believe you could pretty much wear it with anything and that scarf adds just the perfect amount of colour.

That skirt is most fab! I love the way it jumps out from the outfit, and I love how you chose to mix it with these items.

I love the Liberty of London prints, but I too was unimpressed by the quality. This is a great outfit though!

You've inspired me to check out Target (I have something to return there, so maybe I'll go this weekend)! I feel the same way about leggings–I'm old enough to have worn them in the 80s (I remember I had a pair of aqua stirrup leggings with the seam down the fronts of the legs) so I was slow to climb back on that trend, but I find them really useful when a hemline is too short for me to feel comfortable wearing less opaque tights. I think they're so cute with ballet flats too!

I fell in love with that same scarf, and the one you got for your sister I had the hardest time picking, but I also got the wallet in your sisters pattern so I decided to shake it up and get the one you have... It is my Easter present so I have yet to wear it... But I am so excited...I also got my little one a cute summer outfit.

I bought one of the LoL print-dresses, although in general I thought that the materials were a bit iffy. I also got the colourful teapot, two tumblers and a cereal bowl. All in all, cute stuff, but like you said, the quality wasn't exactly what I had hoped for.

i actually was hoping the scarves were a bit softer! they seemed so stiff and uncomfortable!

i loved the men's shirts and ties! and the house ware stuff, too.
