This weekend, I went thrifting with Elena of caffeinerd, which was so much fun (see the lone photo we snapped here)! I picked up a few fantastic pieces (like a huge blue and white scarf and some plaid pants--yes, they are amazing) and a few I'm still undecided on, like these shoes:

I can't decide whether these are totally grandma or kind of awesome. So I need your help! Please be brutally honest! They were only $3, so if they're awful, I'm not going to cry about it. Do they work?

I like the shoes! But, I am a loafer/oxford kind of gal. I've definitely been mocked by friends + family for my "pilgrim" shoes (I especially like loafers with horse bits, etc.). :P

You can pull those shoes off. They would look granny on me, but you make them look cool!

I like them, but I like grandma stuff, so don't put too much stock in my opinion! :)

They really look comfortable- Are they slippery?

You can so carry those shoes off...and at $3...even better!

Ah...am loving the colour of the tights with the skirt...have the same skirt (same colour...already mentioned before)...and same coloured tights too...may have to steal the combo from you! :)

Also loving the matching nail varnish...I really, really miss nail varnish...(damn allergies).

xx:)

I actually don't usually like that type of shoe with a skirt/dress ensemble, but I like it here!

I think they are definitely awesome! (And for $3!!) They work with the outfit, and I can see them being easily incorporated into your wardrobe.

I like the shoes! I think what will make them "grandma shoes" or not is the rest of the outfit, and you did a great job with them here.

I think they're fantastic - keeping them from grandma-land is all in the styling, and shorter hems and tights are great ways of doing that :o)

Love them! Thrifting shoes is the best.

i agree it completely depends on the outfit. i think they look cute here. or with straight leg jeans and a floaty top.

The shoes are not my style, but I think they fit perfectly into yours! And have I mentioned that I adore your topknot? So lovely.

I like them!! i like the tan color, and that look is very in right now. I'm not sure what you call them--oxfords, loafer, something in between? either way, they're awesome!!

I like the shoes, but I think they need something. Maybe swap the laces? You could try some colored ribbon or something, I bet that would edge them up a bit!

Elaine said...

I think they'd look great with some skinny jeans and a button-down with a sweater! Totally geek chic ;)

I can't wait to see what else you thrifted!!

They are totally grandma but totally awesome too! I think they fit perfectly with your style and for $3, your grandma would be proud of your thriftiness!

I love the color of the shoes, but personally not so into the style, but that's just me. You seem to pull that off pretty well, though! Your hair looks great in a top bun like that. Very pretty!

I think they are awesome, because I love androgynous pieces. The fact that they were $3? Doubly awesome!

I think you rock the shoes x

I LOVE the shoes - they are like an amazing oxford/moccasin hybrid! Cute colors and I love your hair this way!

Love the shoes! They'd only look grandma on a grandma... you style 'em up fantastically!

I think since you've kept the rest of the outfit youthful with a shorter hemline, topknot, and the fact that you're clearly not a grandma makes them work ;-) You're rockin' 'em! Plus, they look wicked comfortable.

LPT said...

LOVE the shoes! The rest of your outfit makes them feel fresh and not totally grandma. :-)

Sidewalk Chalk said...

They're awesome. Keep them!
I love the color combo in this outfit too!

I agree with Elaine, those shoes are the old-fashioned kind that can be pulled off so well if you wear it with something a bit more modern. I actually think that if you show off your legs with a short skirt or shorts, it could work. :)

PS: I DO love those tights! Are they maroon?
PPS: The teacups ARE a little Alice, aren't they?

I'm not a fashion girl, neither I am an expert in anything, but I guess I wouldn't like to wear them, because, even with everybody up here saying they're great, I can't see the beauty on them. But this is me :P

Have a great monday!

Cute outfit! Love the cardigan and belt;))

I think I'm even more firmly on the YES side after seeing 'em styled! I'm likin' them! I wore one of my thrifted skirts and a pin today---posting photos soon.

I like your shoes...They're a great alternate to brogues and the color is so neutral that they'll go with everything.

Kristin said...

I think your shoes are just adorable!

Lisa said...

I love the whole outfit and think the shoes are perfect for you! They're exactly something I'd expect you to wear and I think they look great, definitely a keeper!

spoozyliciouzz said...

The shoes are awesome, if only they might be working better when worn with jeans...i´d love to see them combined with some blue shades...

Katie said...

I love the shoes--and they look stylish AND comfortable. Wish I could find that for $3!! But I really don't like them with this outfit. It might be my screen, but they clash horribly with the orange skirt.

How about same shoes/tights and a gray or blue or dark brown skirt?

A-C said...

The shoes are quite a find. Like Sal said, they totally fit your style. In fact, I could see you wearing them w/your long grandpa cardigan and being thrilled with the look. So keep 'em is my vote.

Super cute with the tights and red skirt combo - keep them!

LyddieGal said...

I really like how you've styled them, the colored tights take decades off - though I think they are on the edge of Grandma and could easily slip into that realm if you aren't careful.

these shoes are definitely grandma...which is why i love them! they definitely work. :)
and i always love it when you combine this skirt with those tights. that color combination is one of my favorites!

Sabrina said...

I think on you they are fantastic!!! They are totally you in a good way.

On me they would look grandma.

bonjouritsjinah said...

I like the shoes! They look like they will blend with your wardrobe very nicely. And that AA skirt is my favorite. It's such an easy carefree piece that can be thrown on and still feel put together.

Cute outift, love the shoes!

piglet said...

Hmmm, the shoes are not my cup of tea. But this style does seem to be popular at the moment, so what would I know, haha!
But I do love your hair up like that!

Kelly said...

I'm not a fan of them but to be honest, shoes in that style rarely thrill me so I'm biased!

Bigmouth said...

I totally dig that outfit, but I'm not feeling the shoes. At all.

I. ADORE. THOSE. SHOES. I love them! So spunky and funky and fun!
