While happy with my outfit today in theory and in person, I was not so pleased with these photos, where the brightness of the snow washed out the colors of many of the pictures and where my usually ingenious layering made me look about 15 pounds heavier than normal. In my head, I imagined myself as a leggy J. Crew model with the neck of a giraffe who could wear several layers and a turtleneck and still look tiny. In reality, I am a real girl and look like I stuffed a pillow under my shirt today.

Sigh. You win some, you lose some. On the win side is the snow! We got about 8 inches last night, which was a wonderful surprise this morning. On the lose side is trekking all the way to the middle school to mentor before realizing that public schools have a snow day. And still having to go to campus for classes.

I think you look fabulous and like a J.Crew model! I love the duck boots especially. I wish I had a pair for rainy days in Taipei!
the renegade bean
The public schools definitely made me very jealous today. My 8:15 lab meeting was canceled as my boss was home with her children...but classes of course must go on. ;(
Especially jealous of your duck boots today. And I think you look great!
I think you look great! So cute and preppy!
You look way better than I do in this weather! The snow has caused me to hole up in my pajamas for five days now. I don't even remember what I look like with makeup on :)
Lovin' the chambray oxford. Definitely an item on my 'must have' list.
Love your boots! I think you look great too, but I know what you mean about layering up to stay warm. I bought huge Sorel boots (the ones they featured in the winter JCrew catalogs, but much cheaper at Endless) but haven't worn them yet. And I have a feeling that they will not look quite the way they do on the JCrew model when I wear them. I will likely look very stumpy in the legs, but I'll be warm!
You look great! I love the chambray button up, I really want to get one.

I think you look fantastic! I love combination of mint and teal, and so envy those cords (I'm wearing my J. Crew cords today, too, but they're not make-me-smile mint like yours). Have fun in the snow and stay warm!
I actually think you look super tall and thin. I love the muted blue of the shirt and the DUCK BOOTS!!!!
We got snow overnight and are getting more today. I totally chickened out during my commute this morning.
Yeah.. public schools get it so much better than colleges! lol!
I love the chambray button-up tucked in the skinnies with the snow boots! I may have to experiment with that.... :)
I hate when it looks good in reality but in pictures it doesn't look as good as it does on you! (BTW, I think this looks GREAT!!!) That has happened to me tooooo many times to count...
don't you just love jcrew's cords? i have a couple pairs and they are the most comfortable things EVER!
can't believe all that snow! i don't know how to deal with it, being from california & all!
you got hit with so much snow!!! i love how you wore these duck boots though, you really know how to work them. :)
I think you could def pull off J Crew model! And the outfit looks nice and cozy.
But I do find it perplexing when outfits don't look the same in the mirror as they do in photos - I wonder how that happens? I have so many 'outfits in theory' that never quite make it to the wearable part of my wardrobe.

I love the chambray oxford with the black turtleneck under it - so chic! We got like 8 inches of snow too and I was sad we didn't get a snow day - it just fell too slow, we need a blizzard! I really need to get some duck boots, I am mad jealous of yours!
you look so adorable in snow. your duck boots look so chic!

you look great in this outfit!! It scares me that you got 8" inches last night alone and we are getting hit right now with it.
I wish I had a snow day!
I also agree with many other posters: this look works for you probably better than you think (but I get it if you don't feel comfortable).
I am jealous of your snow day!
loving the outfit!
Cute look! Please send me some of your snow!!
So, I may go to school in a small town, but I had one of my ghetto big city moments just now. I read the part about having a pillow tucked in and said "Girr! You crazy!" ... out loud. Haha, but seriously. You look fabulous. Or should I say faboluss? :]
I think you look fabulous! This is actually one of my favorite outfits of yours...very J.Crew-esque. Gorgeous!
You look precious! I love this look on you! But I hear ya on the J.Crew theories that don't always turn out the way they look in the catalog. This outfit is of course NOT one of those. :)
jealous of the snow you have here! we're still in summer, (but a grey and cold summer) the snow looks delightful. As do you! The outfit looks super cute :)

If only we all looked like leggy j.crew models!
You're a nut. I still totally see you as a "leggy J. Crew model". In fact, when I saw the first picture I thought to myself, "Lord, it's amazing how well she wears those pale pale pants."
Funny thing: I was wearing skinny jeans on Tuesday, and when I got home from work, my husband immediately complimented my outfit. I replied, "Really? I was feeling like my legs looked like tree stumps in these jeans!" He was all: HELL NO!
So I guess the mind's eye is not always seeing clearly, eh?
