Seeing Red

Seeing Red

Works Cited
red skirt: thrifted
patterned button-up: h&m
brown sweater: j crew (via jeremy's)
belt: mommed
tights: ann taylor loft
brogues: steve madden

Because I loved the way the asymmetrical sweater worked yesterday, I decided to try it again today to give the illusion of a higher-waisted skirt. Wrapping the sweater is pretty easy--you take the left side about a third of the way up, pull it all the way to the right and then do the same on the other side. Today I pinned it with a safety pin underneath, because cotton tends to slip more easily (yesterday's wool sweater easily stayed snug). Then wrap a belt, tightly, around the middle of the sweater, just where you wrapped it.

Seeing Red

Ta da!

Now that the snow has melted off just a little bit and the roads are clear, I'm going to brave riding my bicycle to school again, but I have to admit that I'm lingering over my coffee to delay the inevitable freeze outside.

Seeing Red

Oh, and look! I opened a shop. Um, there's not much in it for now, but I plan to change that this weekend. I regularly donate items I definitely won't wear again to Goodwill, but the shop will have things that languish in my closet--I can't give them away but I'm not good at wearing them. So stop by if you like and steal some of my vanilla style (I'm selling it well, right?).

Oh I LOVE the round cornered collar and the pattern of that shirt! Such a great way to wear the cardi, too, and I love that you paired it with a red skirt. Such a lovely outfit!

What a good idea - it really does make the skirt seem high waisted! I love the shirt underneath - the collar is so sweet!

Thank you for tip on how to wear a cardigan like this. Mine always slip, but I have never thought to pin my cotton cardigans with a safety pin. Wow, so simple... I love it! I also love this outfit! (Yay for the red skirt again!)

Hope you have a wonderful wkend!

isn't it difficultriding your bike in a skirt, or not really? i guess i've never tried before. anyways, i love your outfit, as usual. i need to start dressing more like you, haha. i just love the way that your style is so cute yet professional. and i'm not gonna lie, i've been struggling with the belt-ontop-of-cardigan look. i've been wanting to try it out since you always look so good in it, and there have been times where i did it, but just as i'm about to walk out the door i chicken out and take the belt off, haha. i know it's pathetic and that it's not that much of a fashion statement, but i don't know what it is. have a great weekend lady!

I just found your blog today while stumbling around the internets, and it is so adorable! You have a lovely sense of style, much better than I had myself when *I* was a student! And as an avid bookworm since five years old, I love your "nerdy" theme :)

I tried it and it didn't look good on me! :( I think it's only for you and Orchid Grey... lol I'm loving the blouse underneath. What kind of print/pattern is that?

Oh, I love your shirt! Rounded collared shirts aren't that common, and yours works wonderfully in this outfit!

Also, hi, I'm Millie, and I've been reading along for a bit but haven't commented yet. I know you describe your style as vanilla, but I love how wearable it is -- you always look so effortlessly put together!

remember when you asked if you should hem this skirt and I said YES, well now I change my answer. I love it this length how you've worn it! the belt/wrapped sweater totally make it look higher-waisted... and I love the comination of red and brown, with the pop of polka dots! you look fantastic!
