Today's outfit is proof that the difference between ordinary and interesting is in the smaller details. Last night, I thought that my chambray shirt layered under this black tank dress would be the makings of a terrific outfit, but when I put it on this morning, I looked like my third grade teacher, Mrs. Baxter. The outfit had no shape and no color, so thank goodness for some pretty extras, like my favorite sweater and belt. Wrapping the sweater asymmetrically to give it more shape and belting it tightly led me to this:

And a bright scarf in a contrasting color added the pop that I needed to my normal grandmother color palette.

And having a handsome boyfriend with a talent for photography and sincere compliments doesn't hurt either.

Love how you "folded" this cardi over! :)
What a lovely idea (& name) for a blog! Your style is so.. normal. In a good way!
Found you thru Christi of thatssorad. Am adding you to my 'favourite self style blogs' roll asap.
i've been seeing-- and LOVING! the larger belted cardigan lately. super cute.
i love how you belted this cardigan and wore it like a wrap. the denim shirt adds a nice touch as well. :)
I'm donning a grey cardigan w/brown belt today, too...probably inspired by a past look of yours! The scarf looks great. And yay for having a handsome photographer at the ready. :)
you look great! I tried doing this to a cardi of mine that is alittle big, but it didn't turn out as good as yours. Will have to try again.
Belts are magical like that. Way to modernize and customize your look!
its so strange how the combination of the simplest items can create the most interesting outfits. nice.
I love this look on you. The belt really ties (ha ha) it all together. I can't ever layer right - I end up looking like Staypuff!
Love the wrapped style cardigan with the belt - so chic! This is some genius layering!
You get a gold star for layering! (Sorry I couldn't resist running with the elementary school metaphor.)
I hate when that happens... you have this AWESOME outfit planned out and then it looks kinda "eh" when you put it on. Way to rebound and make it even awesomer than you probably imagined! I love the contrasting colors in that gorgeous scarf, and the wrapped sweater and belt adds a lot of cozy fun :) I'm definitely going to steal this idea to work my chambray shirt into more outfits!
It's definitely the details that make it here! The belt and scarf are perfect touches.
I love it! You totally don't look like a third grade teacher. I may have to try and copy this later on...
I adore this. It looks great on you and you have such a cute shape
I love this! What a great way to wear a cardigan. I have an overload of cardigans in my wardrobe, so this is a styling tip I'll definitely try. I also love how you rolled up your sleeves for a bit of color.

i love how you wrapped your sweater asymmetrically! it really gives the outfit a nice quirk. i hate when i have an outfit planned in my head that i think will be PERFECT, but once it's on it just doesn't feel right. you really managed to turn it around, though!
I really like all the layering. The way you made the cardigan asymmetrical really works and also gives a nice silhouette!

I love how this turned out. The chambray shirt is pretty, and I love the scarf and belt details. Well done!

I love how you folded your cardigan... I can never get mine to stay folded over when I try to do this. Any helpful hints... please? :)
Your scarf is beautiful too, btw!

I keep coming up with "great" outfits in my head all the time, and in reality they turn out to be all wrong! I love the way you belted the cardigan; the whole look is so effortless, yet cool!
I love it! You have perfected the art of practicality and style!

Absolutely LOVE how you wrapped and belted your cardigan. You're right, it totally makes this look!
Super cute outfit! I love that you wore the button down under the dress like that--makes me think I should pull out some of my tank dresses and get creative with them!

I absolutely LOVE this look! The denim layered under the sweater with the skirt is genius!!!!
The shirt looks good under the dress...plus, you look nothing like a school teacher...it's all pretty.
Also loving the amount of snow you have...would rather have the thick snow than drizzly rain!
:)
You look like a hip professor I would of killed to take a class from!
yes -- it does take talent to recreate an outfit -- reinvention -- I admire people with this ability.
I love this outfit! I have a scarf that looks almost identical to yours! And yeah, I never thought of bringing my dress to get it altered, I might have to do it if I want to save it. Thank you for your advice!
Oh, I just ADORE this outfit! And you're absolutely right; the details TOTALLY made the outfit.
I really like the way you wrapped the cardigan!
wow, I really like this outfit! I'm slowly building up ways to wear my denim shirt come Winter time...
