Yes, I'm wearing a denim shirt while teaching. Take that, rules! And I feel great about today's bizarre-o outfit. This chambray shirt, despite being an XS, is completely huge, and I wanted a sleeker look with this skirt, so I criss-crossed it and tucked it into the skirt. This rad double-length belt was my mother's in the 70's and is long enough to wear with slacks or at the waist.

I happen to love the combination of blue and brown in varying shades, and this outfit is both easy and has interesting details (my beloved brogues, vintage belt, strange shirt tucking-in), so I feel especially ready to conquer the day (and, as it happens, Frankenstein).

P.S. I added a few new things to the shop last night, so go check it out. I'm doing a big closet-cleaning-out for spring, so expect to see some new stuff in there soon. xoxo.

I love it I love it I love it!!! This is my fave outfit of yours, ever. So perfect. The combination of all the pieces is so fantastic! I cannot express enough how much I love this outfit.
I love the criss crossed shirt so much - I'm going to have to find an old oversize shirt of mine (or my father's?) to try the style myself.

You look great in that mini - and I never thought to criss cross oversized shirts, thanks for the idea! Hm, maybe this means another dig around through my giveaways bag!
Wrapping the shirt is such a fantastic idea ... and the results are so flattering and fun.
Love it!!! I love what you did with the shirt and you are totally rocking it!
How great is it that when I saw this post title I immediately thought you were referring to statistical deviance? Like the frequency of a denim shirt being worn by a professor deviates from the mean with a statistical significance of .001 or something...
the wrapped shirt was a brilliant idea! No doubt the brilliance will translate to your lessons today :o)
Bird on Your Shirt
I love the color combo! It's always great to learn new ways of working with stuff I already have in my wardrobe (and I definitely have a lot of blues, grays and black). I also love the crossover shirt and the belt... I definitely want one of the latter!

love the shirt criss-crossing!
You look adorable!
I love that shirt.
Haha, I don't think this outfit is bizarre-o at all, if you pardon me saying. It has very simple, sleek lines and works well.
Toast with Charmalade
This looks great! I love the brown, black, grey combo.
Oh wow, I totally didn't realize that you had criss-crossed a regular shirt and tucked it in -- the draping looks so natural that I thought it came that way ;) Looks great! Oh, and I love that belt too!
New reader here! LOVE this outfit. I totally want to try it sometime.
Such a great idea for oversized shirts. And I love the gray skirt - my favorite combination is blues and grays.

Well, once again you did a great job. Did you think of pairing this great shirt with some lighter tights? In my opinion that would have even looked better...but that´s just my point of view. You´re gorgeous!
I love how you wrapped the shirt! Did you have any trouble keeping it like that throughout the day?
Nice "alteration" of the shirt--and I love the brown and black together.
The details add some really great touches!! Love the color combo here too.
@Nerd: thank you for your compliment...it was the second time i wore a bow tie, and i think i like the idea of continuing it.
Those tights shouldn´t be hard to find, at least i should think so. I could picture that shirt / skirt combo with light yellow or faded blue, thus resembling the shirt´s colour...too bad i can´t wear those :-)
Anyhow, just keep looking that good, and everything´s fine :)
I'm loving chambray for spring. And that double belt is great! This is a perfectly professorial look.
I just bought a denim store this weekend...and a dress. I love this look and can't wait to start toting a denim shirt around!
I'm lovin your blog!
Good idea on criss-crossing the shirt. You look very pulled together, denim shirt and all! I love how you mix neutrals.
That is such a great idea for an oversized shirt! I'll have to give that a try sometime :)
holy cute what a great look! I love the color combo!
i'm digging your crisscrossed shirt! nice moves to make it more slimming and whatnot!
I love how you criss-crossed it. This outfit looks wonderful, and you definitely made the denim shirt chic.
another hit for me! i love wool skirts. and that belt is awesome...
Love the mix of everything!!
I love the criss-cross of the front! I have the same problem - Old Navy is crazy big with their sizing, I don't know why!
love it! i am in love with your brogues they are so so cute! i am pretty sure i need them!
