Copying Myself

Copying Myself

Works Cited
gray tee: urban outfitters
gray sweater: valentine's gift from mom (j crew)
belt: mommed
scarf: bought in SF
skirt: american apparel
tights: we love colors
socks: target
boots: indigo

I shamelessly copied this outfit from myself (don't you ever do that?). I loved the color palette of this ensemble I put together a few weeks ago and wanted to try a different iteration of it. I started with the orange and dark red and then built various grays and browns on top of it.

Winter Color
Worn first in Winter Color.

Copying Myself

Not too shabby, huh? I am a master imitator, if you ask me. Yes, I am wearing the we love colors tights again (so sue me), and yes, I like them better than Hue tights (which are also terrific). The waistband is more comfortable, and the color is more saturated than Hue tights. Plus I think they're a little thicker. That being said, the blue-gray pair of Hue tights I have just may be the most awesome color ever.

Copying Myself

Sneakily, I'm hiding my other passion underneath my outer layers--I'm wearing a bunch of my backpacking clothes--my smartwool socks in my boots and a patagonia performance long-sleeved shirt under my gray tee and sweater. Walking around my department (or vogue-ing on this blog), no one would know that I am a lifelong avid backpacker and hiker. Today, what is figuratively hidden about me is literally hidden in my layers. You never know what people might be hiding under their clothes, I guess...

I think I prefer We Love Colors, too! I still need to try out my hunter green pair. And copying yourself definitely worked out---looks great! The tights are perfect with this look.

I've been buying Hue's, but it's good to know that We Love Colors are thicker- I could really go for something warmer

Re: copying yourself- when an outfit works, it works!

I plagiarize my own outfits all the time ;) I think you even managed to improve over the original though! The cozy gray sweater really balances out all that red, it's the perfect touch.

I love the colors in this outfit. And of course the socks layered over the tights. :) I'm going to have to look into those We Love Colors tights.

You look fabulous today. Those warm orange/red colors really look well on you. You're an expert-level layer-er. I need to take some lessons from you because I end up always looking like Staypuff.

I really like what you did the second time around! The tights and sweater give it an extra cozy feel.

Also I think it's awesome that you tuck your performance clothing under your chic outer layers. Way to maximize warmth and style!

I love that American Apparel skirt and totally want one for myself! We don't have that store here though, and I've read really horrible things about ordering from them online (really slow processing, colors don't match, sizing issues, etc.). I guess it'll have to wait until I visit a city with a store. Are your We Love Colors tights the 80 denier version?

I am new to your blog and I love this outfit. Btw, what exactly is smartwool? I have never heard of smartwool in socks.

love the pockets in that skirt!

I love to copy myself! Usually this is done by taking parts of one outfit and meshing it with a part of another outfit I liked. And it works so well since it's already your wardrobe :) Economical copying, right?

All that said... I love this new variation. The tights are perfect, and your secret cold-defeating underlayers are completely undetectable! People must just think you're hot blooded!

I loved the first look, and this one is great too! Orangey-reds during winter are so much fun.

I think I like this one even more! The layering is so pretty and I love the color of your tights with the scarf!

Firstly, you're great at hiding layers. And you're great at using separates to make different outfits - it's truly a skill. That's why I wear so many dresses (to avoid the mixing and the matching).

I really like these colors so I am glad you copied yourself.

Woot for ninja-layering! I think it's always interesting to learn more about bloggers than what they're blogging about. Plus! I really love how you paired those tights with that skirt-- they're both red in hue, but it still works.

And haha, good to know that you think sharing is caring. :P

I really love this outfit! The color combination is gorgeous, and all of the pieces work so well together. And I think it's awesome that you're utilizing your hiking clothes to maximize warmth.

When you call it copying (or plaigurizing as someone called it) it sounds bad. When you call it "revision" it sounds excellent. Personally I like the revised version a lot more than the "first draft". The longer sweater gives the outfit a more slim and professional look in my opinion.

Quite cute! I didn't know that an orange red and a maroon could work together, I'm pleasantly suprised.

I really have to try those tights! I like that you pair them with the orange-red skirt here and the light pink sweater yesterday.

Are you kidding...I'm a repeat offender all the time. :) C'mon some days it's just easier to not think and something safe.

I know I've told you this before but I love that skirt!

Love your scarves:-)

I think a ton of people in the Midwest wear smartwool and silk long underwear. It's back to that concept of thin, effective layering, right?

Also, thanks much for the further comparison of Hues and WLCs! Every little bit of info helps!

you're an excellent copy artist. i think i love this look even more than the first! if i didn't live in georgia where we will sooner rather than later have warm temperatures, i might invest in we love colors tights but i'm thinking i'll just wait until next year since we're most of the way through february. that color is just divine, though!

Aaah! Nerd+backpacker. A woman after my own heart. I'm a recent style convert and while my streetwear is more put together now, on the trail/in the wild I still look like a boys size 12 hobo.
Has your style affected your backpacking/hiking look? Do post about what you wear on the trail.
