Sneaky Layers

Sneaky Layers

Works Cited

plaid shirt: thrifted
navy cardigan: j crew outlet
cord skirt: thrifted
navy tights: ann taylor loft
gray wool socks: j crew
boots: indigo
belt: old navy (circa 2003)

Today, the temperature "real feel" is -2. NEGATIVE TWO!! Whaaaaaaa? So I'm breaking out the big guns with sneaky layers--long tanks under my plaid shirt, wool tights, super-warm wool socks, and corduroy. Wish me luck when I'm on my bicycle today--I'm hoping I don't get frostbite! (and yes, Mom, I'll be wearing my helmet).

Sneaky Layers

I'm glad not to be teaching today and to be able to dress a bit more casually. I thrifted this skirt a few weeks ago but haven't gotten the chance to wear it yet. Even though the camel color is pretty neutral, I felt conflicted about what color to pair it with (navy seemed too boring; turquoise too much contrast; white too predictable) and it was Christopher who ingeniously suggested plaid--and I love the way it turned out.

Plaid & camel is genius! And I love the touch of argyle on the socks. Actually, I pretty much love this whole ensemble... and I'm hoping you stay warm while biking!

Wool socks are definitely a must! I'm kind of glad I'll mostly just be traveling inside my warm car today. :) I think the plaid looks great with the skirt (and makes me even more excited for thrifting!).

I think purple or a wine red would work too! I can't believe you're biking in this weather. How do you manage to bike comfortably in a skirt anyway?

Christopher hit the nail on the head. The plaid is perfect!

I feel ya... the real feel here is -7F. Just thinking about it makes me feel cold even though I'm warm and toasty inside.

Fantastic! Great plaid. I snuck an extra layer in myself today (double tights), since we were under a windchill advisory (-20 F) this morning, brrrr. I haven't yet tried the socks peeking up over tall boots, yet, but it looks really cute on you.

The outfit is cute, however I sure hope you aren't planning to wear the skirt while riding your bike. That could be interesting. Good luck in those frigid temps. I'll be indoors in front of my toasty warm heater. :)

Oh man, I'm all about the sneaky layers too! Today was an unbearable wind chill of about zero degrees (no exaggeration), so I seriously stocked up on ninja-layering.

And haha I'm so glad about the teasing! I never thought you thought that I was too mean-- but I didn't want to seem too pushy! Isn't color wonderful? :)

I would never think to wear camel but it looks really great with the plaid. Nice job.

actually, momma such, i AM biking in the skirt!! it's super stretchy and has a sneaky little slit in the back, so it's actually much easier to ride in than you'd think. plus i wear a long coat, which covers everything (just in case).

I'm loving this combination! I would love to see that skirt with a nice plum or eggplant - it would be similar to navy, but with a twist.

Aren't the boys in our lives just awesome sometimes? :-p

LHdM--genius!!! definitely going to go for eggplant next time!

Plaid, wool and corduroy is a fantastic combo for a cold winter day. The -10 windchill kept me off the bike today, go you!
