Making New Friends

Making New Friends

Today I had the pleasure of having lunch with Elena from caffeinerd. It was such a pleasure to meet someone that I feel like I "know" from reading her blog for several months now, even though it was a bit uncanny to see her in real life! We ate delicious salads and gossiped about our boyfriends and our sweet midwestern town, and then we scouted a good spot for photos. Elena was just as sweet and funny in person as she is on her blog, and she had the cutest boots and most artfully-tied scarf.

Making New Friends

I didn't realize until I looked at these photos how absolutely ridiculous I look wearing this coat (I look like the michelin man with little orange legs!). No wonder everyone was staring strangely at this giant down coat with legs bicycling down the road. I'm glad we were brave enough for a few shots without coats--we commiserated about how style blogging toughens you up!

It was so great to meet you in "real life," Elena!

Ha ha! See, this is the thing. I own a wool coat for when I want to look gorgeous, but it seriously only keeps me warm in temperatures above 30 deg F. And don't give me that look! It's a Calvin Klein wool coat, not some cheapie thing from Target! It's nice! But then, for every day wear, because I hate being cold, I own a puffer. I have to stay warm! And Kansas is below 30 deg F for alot of the winter. Of course, my puffer is bright blue and kinda shapely, but still. Baby needs her down coat!

Oh fashion. How you pain me at times.

This is awesome! I love both of you guys - you inspire me and your style is so fun and easy. Which is why I nominated you both for an Over the Top award over on Athenista.

I loved your 'lesson plan' and your willingness to take risks but still keep them in your comfort zone. I love reading!

Ha. Your suggested imagery of the Michelin man riding a bike will forever be with me!

I love when blog friends meet in real life! It's so exciting! The only one I've ever met for real was Sal, from Already Pretty, which was awesome, obviously!

I have similar puffy coat issues, but what can you do?! Midwestern wind chills must be taken seriously! At least you had the cute tights on, and not matching snowpants!

I'm a relatively new reader, but I enjoy your style and your posts. Nerdy stylistas unite! Please feel free to stop by my fledgling blog if you have a chance: birdonyourshirt.blogspot.com
