Recently, I read this article on how people procrastinate pleasure, letting gift certificates, frequent flier miles, and great bottles of wine expire because they keep waiting for a special occasion. When I read it, I thought, "Whoa, that happens in my closet all the time!" This dress is a perfect example--retro and sleek with a big full skirt and pockets--because I felt like it should be worn to an afternoon garden party, or to a casual spring wedding, or for something special. Doesn't this happen to you in your closet--you keep saving something pretty for the right occasion?
But after reading this, I decided to cash in my pleasure now. I am the special occasion and there's no reason to put off wearing a beautiful dress tomorrow if I can wear it today. (Plus, with tights and flats and messy hair, it's dressed down enough for regular wear, if I do say so myself.)
Okay, now I'm off to spend my Amazon gift certificates and frequent flier miles!

YAY! I love this philosophy, and have really tried to employ it recently. Beautiful outfit (and I think it works for day!).

I recently received some good advice regarding items that you're saving for a special occasion - create one yourself! I'm hoping to throw a party soon just so I can wear a pretty dress that I never pull out of the closet.
