Winter Style Project Part 3.3: the layering I have never before attempted, have actually eschewed in fear: layering tights. I had visions dancing in my head of sausages stuffed into too-tight cases or that horrible low-hanging tights crotch (pardon the ugly word) problem that makes you feel like you're wearing a diaper.

But this turned out alright! Not only was it extremely warm (I know I've harped on about this, but I swear a thick pair of tights is warmer than jeans in the winter because they stay closer to your skin and don't turn into a denim sheet of ice), but I love the color it produced. I layered a knit gray-blue pair over turquoise matte tights, and I accidentally reproduced the color of the thermal tee I had layered under my henley (woohoo!). Two slim-fitting tees tucked into the skirt, and this awesome belt (it was only 79 cents!) finished things off.

What do you all think of the boots with this get-up? I'm also wearing a giant down coat, so they don't look as out of place when I'm tromping around, but I still wondered if they looked too bulky with everything else. I could, of course, wear my brown boots, but I'm sort of thinking that if I wear my duck boots often enough, they will become cool the world over. Right?

Brave soul! I'm yet to try layering tights, but really must. Glad to hear the experiment went so well for you.

And, actually, duck boots are spot-on trend right now. For serious.

Love the duck boots with that outfit! If I were doing the same, I might try something more substantial up top, too (maybe a button-down overshirt instead of the top tee or something), but your look definitely works :-)

I love the boots! They're fun and unexpected with the rest of the outfit. I also really like the way you've layered your tops; I may have to try the same thing.

The boots work wonderfully with this outfit! It's cute and unexpected. I totally agree that a pair of thick tights can be warmer than jeans too. I never found jeans very warm in winter at all, and tend to layer over-the-knee socks underneath on cold days.

the boots are fantastic with this ensemble... play in well to the color palette, and add a little winter funkiness :)

and that belt is just plain amazing.

I always love a skinny silhouette with bigger shoes. AND THAT BELT. HOLY MOLY THAT BELT. If I've ever loved anything, it's belts, and that one is just classy.

Cute outfit! I layer tights pretty mich every day now that it's gotten colder here. Sometimes it's just opaque over opaque, so it only looks like one pair, but other times I switch it up and wear a sheerer, patterned pair on top. I love wearing a bright pair like fuschia or cobalt blue under a black patterned pair, so that you get a toned down version of the color peeking through the black.

This belt is amazing. And I've never layered tights...now that I've heard a success story maybe I'll have to try!

I haven't nailed the combining tights look -- I need to try it soon when it gets freezing over here. I love that belt! What an awesome piece for the season. You look fab! - JoAnn, Sidewalk Chalk

That is my favourite "winter style project" outfit so far.
The hair looks just right with it too.

I would never have guessed you're wearing more than one pair of tights! And I like the boots, too.

Brilliant! You look great! I think I would have gone for a different pair of flat boots, but you're workin' it, so who cares? Also, that top is the essential piece. It lightens and slims everything. It's amazing.

You're totally rocking winter chic right here! It is practical but still cute. Love how you've been styling the boots lately. I'm still a little iffy on everyday wear. I'll have to copy this one! :D

Layering of the tights is a brave move. Rose does it. Even when we went to the Today Show (and it was freakin' cold), I just couldn't do it. She's afraid of being cold, but I'm afraid of being hot! You look adorable layered up here and successfully unbumpy. Plus I like the way you have the sleeve rolled up so you can get a peak at each of the layers.

I love love love the layering and the duck boots. You make being (at least a little bit) practical look completely chick by pairing those boots with a skirt.

I have those boots and I love them. I love them with the outfit. I also love practical fashion. ( I rarely wear heals and I like being comfortable and or warm )

So I love it when other ppl mix practical with style! Go you.
