If you're wondering why I look dementedly gleeful in the second photo, it can only be explained by the arrival of these new shoes. Which I love. I'm sure my grandmother has a pair (or three) in her closet, and yet that only adds to their charm. I love that they are slightly nerdy, the most perfect brown color, and the softest leather. Although I wish I had the patience to search for a perfect pair of these at a thrift store, patience is certainly not one of my virtues.
The outfit was organized around the shoe (clearly) and brooch, which I found at a giant antique store this summer in Maine, called the Antique Chicken Barn (strange, huh? all their wares were in a giant abandoned chicken coop). I played off the colors in the brooch with the green and darker brown tanks. The brooch helps liven up an otherwise plain ensemble (plain from the ankles up, of course).

Do you guys love new shoes as much as I do? I really try to restrain my shoe purchases (this one only happened because I took on some freelance work to alleviate my guilt), but when I find something I love, I have very little impulse control.
Sigh.

You are adorable when you're dementedly gleeful! I think these shoes suit you perfectly. I try to be good about impulse control, but I also reward myself for every single academic goal of note that I achieve. I bought a new pair of boots or a dress that I normally would have deemed too expensive for every couple of dissertation chapters that I drafted and when I've sent off articles for publication.
Love your new oxford...it looks so comfy.
Simple, but chic. I love it!

Aaaahaha yes! Those are simply beautiful. I know what you mean, when you need something, you need it. I used to work at this consignment store, and whenever I want to buy something but not spend money, I just sell a bunch of my old stuff back to the store and use that money so it's an invisible purchase.
Shoes look awesome--congrats!
I'd love to see a close up of the brooch. I love the whole outfit, especially all the brown colors. And of course the shoes!
love the shoes. And, I like your hair. Yup. :)

Oxfords! I've been hunting, hunting, hunting for a pair of oxfords in my size at thrift stores and Etsy. I should give up and give in, too :) Those look great, especially with the rolled cuffs. I'm totally with you on the nerdy shoe love.
